What is PE 10 Online?

What is Physical Education 10 Online?

Physical Education will be offered in an online environment where you will engage in online discussions and participate in activities that will help you develop lifelong skills needed to lead a healthy lifestyle.  The course meets the Ministry of Education's learning outcomes and students are encouraged to become active independently to satisfy their activity log requirements.  Students will need to be able to video or take pictures of their activities for verification.

About this Course:

Physical Education 10 is is designed and most effective if to be completed within 25 weeks.

Students are expected to complete and submit the following in a timely fashion:

   Intro quizzes 10%

These unique quizzes will be 'open book' and actually help you get started by confirming your knowledge prior to getting started with the rest of the course.

   10 activity logs 40%

These reports will help you journal your activities and nutrition during the 20 week period and guide you to make healthier choices from what you learned from the assignments and workshops.  It’s most effective to complete at least 20 hours of exercise per monthly report to get the most from the program.

   Written assignments 30%

All of the written assignments are located in WebCT.  Units one and two have each of the 17 lessons as well as the written assignments.  Read through each lesson and complete the worksheet located at the bottom of each lesson.

   3 Fitness Tests 10%

There will be 3 fitness sessions consisting of 4 fitness tests you will will be asked to submit throughout the semester.

Participation in the Monthly Discussions 10%

Each month you are in the course, there will be a topic of interest that will come up from wellness tips to stress management strategies.  All I would like for you to do is take part in the discussion and let me and the community know what you think about it!

Students are required to fully document their physical activity for each reporting period and submit an activity report that accounts for 10 hours of activity for a total of 100 hours over the course of 25 weeks. Exercises/activity must be current or recent - within the last month to count. Each activity must be verified by an adult and with digital evidence (a digital photograph or video).

Acceptable Activities

Acceptable activities include those that are typically done as part of a regular PE class. Students may choose a wide variety of activities to meet the required 100 hours of physical activity. These recreation-based activities will help students develop skills and increase their interest in life-long recreational activities. Hopefully, the activities students choose will become a part of their day to day activities and will continue once the course expectations are complete. Domestic chores and Wii/xbox games don't count as acceptable activities (i.e. chopping wood, walking to the mall, shopping, Wii boxing, Wii tennis etc.) unless they are considered fitness games (i.e. EA Active, Wii Fit, etc)

If students complete a recommended certification course (such as first aid, coaching, or officiating) during this course, they may use these hours toward the required 100 hours of activity. A certificate of completion must be submitted to earn the hours.

Requirements:

Internet access is required for this course as you will have to download and upload assignment files.

A digital camera or video camera is required to provide digital evidence of your participation in the activities.

Microsoft Office or OpenOffice (available as freeware).
